Dear Friends,
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"
Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities. The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President's national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems.
This year’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service will be held on January 20, 2014. Many ONDCP staff will be taking a “day on, not a day off” by participating in community projects to clean up neighborhoods, support housing and education programs for the homeless, or serving veterans. We hope that you will join ONDCP and engaged citizens throughout our country by volunteering to serve in your community. To find out how you can get involved, please visit the Corporation for National and Community Service’s website, www.MLKDay.gov<http://links.whitehouse.gov/track?type=click&enid=ZWFzPTEmbWFpbGluZ2lkPTIwMTQwMTA4LjI3MjU0MzYxJm1lc3NhZ2VpZD1NREItUFJELUJVTC0yMDE0MDEwOC4yNzI1NDM2MSZkYXRhYmFzZWlkPTEwMDEmc2VyaWFsPTE2OTk5Mzc2JmVtYWlsaWQ9d2VzLnNjb3R0QG5zYy5vcmcmdXNlcmlkPXdlcy5zY290dEBuc2Mub3JnJmZsPSZleHRyYT1NdWx0aXZhcmlhdGVJZD0mJiY=&&&100&&&http://www.MLKDay.gov>, which has resources to help you plan and promote projects, recruit volunteers, or find opportunities to serve in your community.
Please join the conversation and let us know what you are doing to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy through King Day of Service’s Facebook and Twitter @MLKDay.
Sincerely,
R. Gil Kerlikowske
