Trick or Treating Safety Tips

Posted on Tue, Oct 2, 2012

Ghoulish costumes, spooky decorations and delicious treats! Halloween is suppose to be an exciting holiday, but with all the fun we want you to be safe. Here are some helpful Trick or Treat Safe Driving Tips to ensure this Halloween is enjoyable for everyone!

Plan your route ahead of time

Some streets may be closed to accommodate Trick or Treaters, so plan an alternate route. Allow plenty of time to get to your destination to avoid speeding.

Maintain a speed well below the posted limit

Trick or Treaters could dart across the road and may not see you. Staying below the speed limit helps increase reaction time if you need to stop.

Avoid cell phone use and other distractions

Make sure your cell phone is off and put away to minimize distractions. Also keep your radio volume low and ask other passengers to be alert for pedestrians.

Be wary of stopped or slow vehicles

Take caution passing stopped vehicles; they could be dropping off or picking up children. If you need to stop make sure to use your hazard lights.

Costume Safety

Wear flame retardant costumes.

Apply reflective tape to your Halloween costumes.

Avoid cumbersome masks. Use make-up instead. Use only hypoallergenic and non-toxic makeup.

Wear comfortable, practical shoes. Double tie your shoelaces so you don't trip.

Keep your costume and wig away from candles.
