Bearing The Cross

Helen Keller – born deaf and blind becomes one of the world’s leading advocates for people with disabilities.

Martin Luther King Jr. – a victim of discrimination and racism led a nation in securing civil rights for African Americans

Jarena Lee – faced tremendous hostility for preaching despite Bishop Richard Allen’s blessings, but persevered, paving a way for female preachers in African Methodism.

Richard Allen – a victim of oppression in the church established the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1787.

What all these persons had in common was their willingness to bear a cross, and because they did, it led to a better life for many. It’s only through the cross that life is wrought. The angels said to the woman, “Do not be afraid, for I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen from the dead“(Matthew 28; 5, 6).

The Easter message is there can be life in the midst of death only if we are willing to bear a cross.

“Must Jesus bear the cross alone and all the world go free,

No there’s a cross for everyone and there’s a cross for me.”
